DARRELL GLENN HEWITT Darrell G. Hewitt, 84, of Newton, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2015. Born on August 21, 1930 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Ernest and Edith Hewitt. Darrell worked in construction all his life and retired from Duke Energy. He was an avid cat lover. He was an E6 in the Army and served in the Korean War. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Sara “Jane” Brumley Hewitt; and two nephews, Terry Gene (Gino) Stokes Jr., and Phillip Hewitt. Survivors include his sister, Rita Stokes; brothers, Bill Hewitt and Kenneth Sr. Hewitt; nieces and nephews, Dawn Hewitt, Denise Stokes Hall, Tim and Sam Hewitt, and Kenneth Jr. Hewitt; step-daughters, Diane Drum (Bill) Kowalczyk , and Nancy ( Shannon) Petry; and grandchildren, Sara, Ben, Stan Kowalczyk, and Andrew Petry. A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at 11 am at Catawba Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
