Doris Jean Henderson

Doris Jean Blair Henderson, 82 of Newton went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 23rd, 2026, at The Greens in Lincolnton surrounded by her loved ones.

Born February 7th, 1943, in Catawba County, NC, Doris was the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Ruth Jones Blair. Doris attended Ridgeview School and Johnson C. Smith University. She was a faithful member of New Direction Word Church in Newton where she used her great sense of humor to make all feel welcome. Doris also enjoyed singing, westerns, and especially Aaron Judge. She was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bobby) Edwin Henderson Sr., her brother Arthur Nathaniel Blair, her sister Nellie Faye Lackey, and her daughter-in-law Vera Louise Flowers Henderson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons Robert Edwin Henderson Jr. of Newton, NC and Darrell Henderson of St. Albans, WV. Her sisters, Ida Clough, Mary Jo (Henry) Chapman, Peggy Hunter all of Hickory, NC. Her grandchildren Anthony (Megan) Bourne of, NC, Jacqueline Nizza of New York, Christopher Henderson of Crozet, VA, Anna (Kyle) Hearn of Charlotte, NC, Isaiah Henderson of Newton, NC, and Nathaniel Henderson of Raleigh, as well as a host of great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 7th, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church at 3147 - 12th Ave SE, Hickory, NC 28602 with Pastor Brenda Robinson officiating and Minister Robert Henderson will deliver the eulogy.

The family will receive friends after the service for a brief period.
