

He was born in Athens, Georgia on November 22, 1947 to the late Edwin Neal Bateman, Sr. and Doris Lucille Massey Bateman.
Ed was a graduate of Georgia Southern University and a retired Lt. Commander of the U.S. Navy. He retired in January 2014 from Catawba Valley Medical Center where he served as Director of Business and Physician Development. He was strong in his faith, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, living on the lake, and fellowshiping with friends.
Ed is survived by his sister, Celeste (Ken) Shipp of Atlanta; his daughters, Legh (Mike) Beal of Mount Airy, NC and Elizabeth (Al) Gargis, and his son Neal (Ashley) Bateman of Atlanta. He is also survived by four granddaughters, Catherine, Maggie, Lilly, and Caroline; one niece, Kim (Johnny) Kesting and one nephew, Lydon (Erika) Small.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Hickory Tuesday, September 2. Reverend Whit Malone will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the church.
