She was born on October 6, 1942, to Forest and Carmen Whitener. Gail was a life-long member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church in Hickory. She was a very active member of her church where she taught Sunday school, served as a deacon, served on numerous committees and was active in the WMU. She loved her Lord and her faith never waivered. Gail also supported her community by serving on the Auxiliary of the Mountain View Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
Along with her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her mother-in-law Irene Jones, her father-in-law Preston Jones, and numerous aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years Jerry Jones of the home; her daughter Wanda Jones and special friend David Lackey, sons Tim and wife Cathy B., and Jeff and wife Cathy C. all of Hickory. Also surviving are her sisters Sue Whitener Ward and husband Errol of Hickory and Kay DelVechio-Brown and husband Neil of Surfside, South Carolina. Grandchildren Derek, Josh and wife Brittany, Jenny and husband Adam, Ben and wife Racheal, and Brady and fiancée Lindsey along with six great grandchildren also survive her. She leaves behind five nephews, and a large number of cousins. She also leaves special friends and coworkers at Repay.
The family would like to thank Carolina Caring and all the special caregivers who ministered to Gail.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, February 26, 2022 at 3:00pm at Mountain Grove Baptist Church in Hickory.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 26, 2022 from 1:45pm to 2:45pm at church prior to service. Please be mindful of Covid.
