Paul was born Sept. 25, 1929, in Burke County. He served in the U.S. Air Force, spending time on Oahu, Guam, and Wake Island.
Paul was an amazing man. He worked as an air traffic controller, and after retiring, continued to work as a corporate pilot for Broyhill Industries, CommScope and Hickory Printing Co. in his spare time, he loved working on cars and trading cars. He restored several old Mustangs, and also restored a Tuskegee Airmen training plane that he purchased in Alabama and rebuilt in his back driveway. He taught himself how to play guitar and piano and passed on a love of books and music to his daughter, Pam. Paul, Lena and Pam traveled all over the U.S., visiting many national parks. He loved thoroughbred horse racing and enjoyed trips to Keeneland and other race tracks.
Most of all, Paul was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family, and that was never more evident than his determination to take care of Lena during her long battle with Alzheimer’s.
