Getsy Ball Smithey

She was the daughter of the late John Avery and Laura Marlow Ball, of Wilkes County. Mrs. Smithey was a faithful lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In addition to her church life, she was an accomplished homemaker, a wonderful cook and baker, and a devoted wife and mother. She was a retiree of Joan Fabrics Corporation, where she worked for many years as a fabric inspector and mender.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Lonnie Tedro Smithey; six sons, Alvin, Donald, Douglas, Johnny Lee, and two unnamed infants. Also preceding her in death are a great-grandson, Shane Buckner, and a son-in-law, Wayne Padgett. Three brothers, Gwen, Wilford, and Henry Ball; six sisters, Florence Bostian, Lessie Anderson, Ina Mae Bostic, Goldie Moore, Lacie Woodie, and Beatrice Wilson also preceded her in death.

Survivors include one son, Cecil Smithey (Nancy) of Hickory; two daughters, Linda Padgett of Claremont, and Lavonne Barker (Henry) of Hickory; two daughter-in-laws, Dee Smithey of Conover, and Jaynie Smithey Eckard (Jimmy) of Hickory, one brother, Lewis Ball (Norma Shay) of Philippe, WV. Mrs. Smithey is survived by twelve grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, and fourteen great-great grandchildren.

Memorial services for Gesty Smithey will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Hickory Chapel, on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 2pm with Bishop Dalan Garcia officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:45pm prior to the service. Burial will follow service at Catawba Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Chris Smithey, Craig Smithey, Curt Smithey, Cory Smithey, Jamen Smithey, Alec Smithey, Patrick Barker, and Daniel Caldwell.

Honorary pallbearers include, Eldon Caldwell, Larry Johnson, Tony Hawn, Michael Hodges, and Jordan Huffman.
