Helen Carter Kerr

Hickory – Helen Carter Kerr, 91, passed away August 28, 2015 at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. She was born September 4, 1923 in Rowan County to the late Jonas E. and Esther Troutman Carter. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband James Pressley Kerr Sr.; and twelve brothers and sisters. Helen was a member of West Hickory Baptist Church. She was Vice President and Chairmen of the Board of Kerr’s Hickory Ready Mix Concrete and Co-owner of Kerr Sand Company.She is survived by her daughters, Katrina Kerr Hayes and husband, Frank of Charlotte and Mary Kerr Luckadoo and husband, Tommy of Hickory; sons, James Pressley Kerr Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Hickory and Roger Stephen Kerr and wife, Melinda of Hickory; granddaughters, Heather Nichole Cox of Charlotte, Rebecca Kerr Smith and husband, Aaron of Bolivia, NC, Emily Marie Kerr of Hickory, Kaitlyn Jennifer Kerr of Hickory, Sarah Olivia Luckadoo of Hickory, and Emma Kerr Luckadoo of Hickory; and great-granddaughter, Kylie Madison Smith of Bolivia, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at West Hickory Baptist Church. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at West Hickory Baptist Church, with Pastor Scott Frady officiating. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Hickory. Memorials may be made to West Hickory Baptist Church Music Fund, 40 12th St. NW, Hickory, NC 28601.
