

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, one brother, three half sisters and two half brothers.
After high school, he moved to Baltimore, Md. where he began his career in the insurance industry. In 1943, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and fought bravely for our country in Iwo Jima with the 5th Marine Division. When WWII ended, he was sent to Japan for occupation duty.
After the war, he returned to Baltimore where he met and married his wife Elsie Bauguess. They moved to Hickory, NC in 1956 and they opened Lockhart Real Estate and Insurance Agency. In his free time, Jack enjoyed gardening, traveling to Kure Beach with his family and restoring antique furniture.
Jack is survived by his wife of 70 years, Elsie Lockhart; two daughters, Laura Lockhart of Charlotte, NC, Jackie Lockhart and husband Geitner Simmons of Lincoln, Nebraska and one son, Kenneth Lockhart of Hickory, NC; two grandchildren, Harry Simmons of Omaha, Nebraska and Lucy Simmons of Portland, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
Since no services will be held at this time, the family requests that donations be sent to the Humane Society of Catawba County, 3224 20th Ave SE, Hickory NC, 28601 or Meals on Wheels of Catawba County, PO Box 207, Newton, NC 28658.
