He is survived by his wife Paulette Abernethy of the home; his son Adam Abernethy (Kerrie) of Hildebran; his mother Clara Stroud Abernethy of Hickory; sisters Paula Lowman (Steve) of Hickory, Nancy Chapman of Vale, and Karen Foster (johnny) of Hickory; brother David Abernethy (Chris) of Mountain City, TN; 3 grandchildren Kinley, James and Brayden, and his furry friends, Molly Bee and Bubba.
A receiving of friends for James will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2024 from 1:45 PM to 2:45 PM at New Jerusalem Lutheran Church, 2120 Startown Road, Hickory, North Carolina 28602, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM.
