HICKORY – James Floyd Poovey, 96 of Hickory passed away on January 20, 2025.
Born on December 5, 1928 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Floyd Pascal and Claudia Rink Poovey. Jim was a surveyor and he led teams for Duke Power Co. surveying dam/lake sites in NC and SC, most notably Lake Keowee, Lake Jocassee, and Lake Toxaway Projects. He was an avid hunter, gardener and winemaker. Jim was a very talented craftsman, auto mechanic and repairman. He was a minimalist, only using what was absolutely necessary.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Poovey.
Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Anna Klassett and husband David; grandsons, Zane Klassett, Cory Klassett, Darren Boling, David Boling, Dake Boling, Justin Boling, Chris Boling; additional family, Pete Boling and wife Madelyn, and special family friend, Daniel Herman.
