Jerald (Jerry) Vernon Settlemyre, 85, of Hickory, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at Frye Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 16, 1940, in Catawba County, North Carolina, Jerry was the son of the late Clyde Vernon Settlemyre and Florence (Wilson) Settlemyre. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose steady presence, strong work ethic, and quiet faith shaped the lives of those who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Diane (Fincannon) Settlemyre; and his sisters, Gloria (Settlemyre) Helms and Janette (Settlemyre) Davis.
Those left to cherish his memory include his two sons, Brad Settlemyre and wife Ann of Lenoir, North Carolina, and Todd Settlemyre and wife Donna of Mableton, Georgia; his brother, Richard Settlemyre of Newton, North Carolina; his sister, Janie (Settlemyre) Beard of Maiden, North Carolina; and his three grandchildren, Katie, Scott, and Emma. He is also survived by extended family members and many dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Jerry will be remembered for his love of family, his dedication to providing for those he cared about, and his unwavering faith. His life was a testament to quiet strength, integrity, and kindness.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 3, 2026, at Catawba Memorial Park, with Pastor Todd Cook officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Miller's Lutheran Church in Hickory, North Carolina, in Jerry’s memory.
