HICKORY----John Kenney “The Handy Man” Johnson, Sr., 74, passed away Oct. 24, 2014 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.John was born July 20, 1940 in Bulloch Co., Ga. to the late Sumter and Ruth Kenney Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Burt.
Surviving are his wife, Olive McDaniel Johnson of the home; daughter, Melanie Zimmermann and husband, David of Hickory; son, Ken Johnson and wife, Heidi of West Lafayette, Ind.; granddaughters, Catie Brown of Hickory, Lauren Huffman of Sterling, Va, Sallie Ann Huffman of Sterling, Va. Haley Zimmermann of Lenoir, NC, Maurissa Zimmermann of Wilmington, N.C. Paige Johnson of West Lafayette, Ind, Hope Johnson of West Lafayette, Ind; grandsons, David Zimmermann of Denver, N. C., Corey Zimmermann of Denver, N. C. and Geordie Johnson of West Lafayette, Ind.; 11 great grandchildren and a brother, Jim Johnson and wife, Lisa of St. Louis, Mo.The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 30, from 4:00 – 6:00 P. M. at Hickory Funeral Home.
