Jose “Alex” Martinez, age 15 went home to the Lord on Wednesday December 14, 2016 in Maiden. Alex was born on January 4, 2001 in Methuen, Massachusetts and lived in the area for the last eight years. Alex was a sophomore at Bandy’s High School in Maiden and was an active member of the Beta Club. Alex is survived by his mother Angela Alfonso and step-father, Fonzie of Maiden; father Juan Martinez and step-mother Adelicia Roman of Delaware; grandmothers, Joyce Alkire, Marta Quinonez and Siomara Alfonso; grandfathers, Curtis Batchelder, Jose Martinez and Georfredo Alfonso; siblings, Deshawn Benson, Alex Valle, Andy Martinez, Kathryn Elisabette Martinez, Fatima Daylene Martinez, Marlayna Corin Alfonso and Samantha Alfonso.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gary Wilson. A celebration of Alex’s life will be held at 2:30 pm, Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Catawba Funeral Home in Hickory with Pastor Oscar Carias officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 pm to 7 pm, Saturday December 17 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
