Joseph "Joey" Douglas Proctor

Joseph “Joey” Douglas Proctor, 58, of 960 Cape Hickory Road, Hickory, NC, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the home of his fiancé in Shelby, NC. Born on Feb. 8, 1959, in Gaston County, N.C., he was the son of Levirtis (Lee) Short White and the late Summie Proctor. Joey was a member of Drowning Creek Baptist Church of Hickory and also a member of The Spa of Hickory. Joey never met a stranger, and he loved spending time with family and friends. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Proctor Greene. He is survived by his mother, Levirtis Short White of Hickory; daughter, Brittany Starbuck and boyfriend Arthur of Hickory; son, Douglas Proctor and wife Whitney of Hickory; sisters, Janice Proctor Payne of Gastonia, Connie Raynor of Bessemer City; Fiancé and best friend, Jane Mayhue of Shelby; grandchildren, Laiklynn Proctor, Makenzie and Paisley Norville, Khristian Garner and Eli Brooks; and his loving dog “Butter” the miracle dog. A service will be held at 3 p.m., on Thursday, May 11, 2017, in the chapel of Catawba Memorial Park, Funerals & Cremations, with the Rev. Scott Caldwell officiating, with burial following the service at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 until 2:45 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in honor of Mr. Proctor to National Kidney Foundation, Inc. at 30 East 33rd St. New York, NY 10016.
