Kenneth Ray Coble, 54, of Hildebran, passed away June 25, 2017 at his residence. Born September 2, 1962 in Newton, NC, he was the son of Kenneth L. Coble and the late Judy Phillips Coble. Kenny, as he was known to his family and closest friends, was a gregarious and engaging man. His twinkling eyes, warm smile and white beard had children certain they had seen Santa Claus. He reinforced that notion by exclaiming “Merry Christmas!” as he went through his day. A performer, accomplished musician and singer, Ken was truly interested in the people he encountered in his life and he enjoyed hearing other’s stories. He made audience participation a big part of his performing life and he made a habit of engaging others in his work as a driver for Specialized Transport. Meeting Ken meant you were about to have a conversation with a new friend.
Ken held a special place in his heart for Bear Den Campground, Spruce Pine NC where he worked every summer during his teen years. He played trombone with Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs and always loved beach music and shaggin’. His big heart always held room for animals, especially his dog, Weiner, a miniature dachshund who lived to be 20 years old.
In addition to his father, Kenny is survived by his wife of 20 years, Lauren Davis, step-son, Jody Cuthrell; step-daughter, Jordan D. Burns; brother, Chris Coble and wife Deana; sister, Sherri Hughes and Jim; grandchildren, Kylyn, Elijah, and Emmalyn; nieces and nephews, Travis, Whitney, Ashley, Sarah, Garrett, Savannah, Luke, Levi, and Anna Grace.
A memorial gathering will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home in Hickory. Visitation with the family will follow from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.
