Lawrence Hart Johnston Jr.

Lawrence “Larry” Hart Johnston, Jr. 79, of Hickory, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2018, at his residence. Born March 11, 1938, he was the son of the late Lawrence Hart Johnston, Sr. and Dorothy Margarite Webb Johnston. A veteran of the US Navy, he previously was employed as a real estate agent and as a store manager for Sears.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rita Johnston and son-in-law, Gary Bowerman.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Carol Bowers Johnston; son, L. Mark Johnston of Old Forge, NY; daughter, Terri Bowerman of Hickory; brother, Richard Johnston of Modesto, CA; eight grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Joe Westfall officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, General Fund, 52 16th Ave NW, Hickory, NC 28601.
