Martha Abernathy Owenby

IRON STATION – Martha Abernathy Owenby, 84 went home to be with the Lord on July 22, 2025.

Born on October 7, 1940 in Gaston County to the late Major Franklin and Myrtle McAlister Abernathy. Martha was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. She loved the mountains, cooking for her family and Chuck Norris.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Owenby and 13 siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Anthony Wayne Owenby, Pamula Solbakken and partner Ayrton, Jimmy Solbakken; grandchildren, Jon, Jeff, Stephen, Kayla, Caleb, Silas, Cindy, Jax, Ayden, RJ, Kaydence, Asher; sister, Pansy Jonas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 2 PM at Catawba Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends prior from 1 PM – 2 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project.
