Mary Alice Townsend Cagle

Mary Alice T. Cagle, 88, of Hickory, passed away on October 21, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born February 16, 1926 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Harvey “Happy” Washington Townsend and Katherine Louise Kanupp Townsend. She was a member for over twenty years of Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church and was a homemaker. Mary loved to knit and crochet, and was a member of the Hickory Rescue Squad Auxillary, the La Societe de Femmes, and the American Legion Auxillary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Charles Robert “Bob” Cagle, brother, Hal Townsend and sister, Vivian Sigmon.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennie Cagle Hefner and husband Barclay of Hickory; son, Chris Cagle and wife Trish of Hickory; grandchildren, Clay Tyler Hefner of Charlotte, and Rachel Hefner Quarles and husband Matt of Hickory; step-grandchildren, Jana Sullivan and husband John of Hickory and Blake Whitson of Wilmington.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church with Pastor Mike Stone officiating. The family will receive informally following the service.
