

Millie Lynn Adams won her valiant fight with cancer on Monday, April 20, 2015, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Mrs. Adams, 67, was born on December 25, 1947, in Hickory, NC, to the late Eugene Levi Lynn and Fannie Hildebran Lynn. After graduating from Fred. T. Foard High School, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Lenoir-Rhyne College and began a long and distinguished career in education, teaching at Alexander Central High School for 39 years. During her career at ACHS, Millie chaired the English Department, served on numerous school and system committees, oversaw the mentoring of new teachers, and taught AP Senior English. As a result of her outstanding work in and out of the classroom, she received many recognitions, including ACHS yearbook dedication, ACHS Teacher of the Year, Alexander County Teacher of the Year, North Carolina Teacher Academy instructor, National Boards Certification, and the Alexander County Schools Award of Honor. During her career, Millie earned the respect and love of students, faculty, and staff, touching and changing lives, molding minds and mending hearts, and setting the example of a true Master Teacher. In addition to her parents, Millie was preceded in death by sisters Myrtle Dowell, Ellen Young, Francis Price and Betty Jane Lynn and brothers Floyd Lynn, Pete Lynn, Cecil Lynn, and Joe Lynn. She is survived by her husband C.B. Adams, son Shane Adams, and daughter Tara Adams; sisters Nettie Lynn Berry, Mary Lynn Young, and Carel Lynn Shipman; sister-in-law Linda Middleton; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to offer their sincere appreciation to Dr. Richard Orlowski and his staff, to the nurses in the Oncology Department and the Intensive Care Unit at Catawba Valley Medical Center, and to Millie’s personal nurse Kim Pennell for the excellent and compassionate care that Millie received throughout her illness. A memorial service in honor of Millie Adams will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at 4:00 pm in the Alexander Central High School Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
