

She was born March 7, 1934 in Catawba County to the late Roy McCree Hefner and Macie Hefner Killian. Norma was a graduate of St. Stephens High School, class of 1952 and a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Conover, NC. She married her true love, Melvin “Shorty” Sigmon on December 22, 1951 and worked alongside him at Melvin Sigmon Company. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Not only was she a former teacher’s assistant at Clyde Campbell Elementary School, and a receptionist for H&R Block, she was also a volunteer at Catawba Valley Medical Center for over 10 years and the first PTA President at Clyde Campbell Elementary School.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Hefner and Carl Hefner.
Left to rejoice with wonderful memories are, Melvin “Shorty” Sigmon, husband of 62 years; daughter, Vicky S. Watters and husband, Tom, of Hudson; sons, Randall Sigmon and wife, René, of Bethlehem, and Brent Sigmon and wife, Lynette, of Newton; grandchildren, Chris Watters and wife, Nichole, Kerrie W. Tarwasokono and husband, Nathanael, Ashley R. Frodge and husband, Brad, and Sarah Sigmon; great grandchildren, Noah Tarwasokono, Isaiah Tarwasokono, Graham Watters, and Charlee Kate Watters; and brothers, Joe Hefner and wife, Jeanette, of Claremont, and Johnny Hefner and wife, Judy, of Hickory.
A service of remembrance will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Conover, NC. Reverend Scott Bollinger will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the fellowship hall of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church.
