Born on October 6, 1936 in Smyth County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Otis and Nancy Hatfield Gamble. She lived in Chilhowie, VA, Winston Salem, Hickory, and spent her last three years with her daughter Nancy and six of her great-grandchildren in Durham, NC. She obtained her associates degree in accounting in her sixties and did administrative work many years. She was an avid walker and accomplished the Susan G. Komen 3-day 60-mile walk for breast cancer, which was important to her as a breast and colon cancer survivor. She volunteered at various places and always had a rescue dog she adored. Even up to her 85th birthday you could often find her on the floor playing and laughing with her littlest great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth “Casey” Robbins;.
She is survived by her daughters Nancy Simpson McGee of Durham and Rebecca Robbins (Vic) Mitchener of Charlotte; her son Kenneth “Bucky” (Ellen) Robbins of Hickory; her grandchildren John (Katy) Moore, Holli Robbins, Katie (Art) Howson, Lindsay (Matthias) Handrich, William (Maddie) Moore, Scott McGee, Mary Allison Bobiak (Douglas), Brian Lee (Andrea), Stephen Lee (Tiffany), Carolyn Lee, Roland (Michael) Simmons, Anne Stuart (Ross Alberghini) Mitchener; numerous great-grandchildren; her brother Bryan Gamble of Fayetteville.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10:30 am at Hickory Funeral Home. Service will follow at 11:00 am in the chapel at Hickory Funeral Home.
Entombment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
