Paul Lenard Waldon

Paul Lenard Waldon, 89, of Hickory, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Frye Regional Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born September 24, 1925 in Minneapolis, MN, he was the son of the late Clarence and Esther Waldon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Waldon; sisters, Nora Lee and Carolyn Stussy and nephew, David Lee.

Paul is survived by his loving family, his wife of 63 years, Marion Langlie Waldon; sons, Gralen Waldon of Raleigh, NC and Craig Waldon and wife Deborah of Etowah, NC; daughter, Kristin Spencer and husband Wade of Graham, NC; grandchildren, Rachel Anne and Kari Spencer of Graham and Jenna Walsh of Hickory; great-granddaughter, Sydney Greene of Hickory; brother-in-law, Maurice Stussy; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Paul served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He attended Concordia Lutheran College, was a member of Delta Rho and played on the football and hockey teams. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and was president of Kappa Eta Kappa. He was an Eagle Scout and served as Scout Master of 2 troops. He was employed with General Electric as an electrical engineer, retired as a Senior Advanced Development Engineer and was the author of two patents. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, fishing, golf, skiing, camping and swimming. Paul was a man of many talents. He built a small boat and our first home. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and faithful friend.

Paul was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, and choir member. He started the tape ministry and received the silent saint award.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Hickory with Rev David Keck officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
