Ronald Lane Cooke

Ronald Lane Cooke, age 84, of Hickory, NC, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025.

Ron was born in Marion, NC on December 1, 1940, the son of the late Paul and Abby Cooke. After graduation from Hickory High School, Ron attended and graduated from Ringling School of Design in Deland, Florida. He worked for over sixty years in the furniture and interior decorating industries in many parts of the country, including New York City, the Carolinas and Florida. His career included working for and with numerous furniture companies, including Leathercraft, Lane and King Hickory, and many private clients. His unsurpassed design abilities and genuine love of his work and his clients were evident to all with whom he worked. Ron was an impeccable and professional man, a true Southern gentleman.

Ron is survived by his beloved husband, Michael Prewitt of the home. Ron and Michael enjoyed spending time at their beautiful home in Hickory, their “mountain house” in Blowing Rock and travelling with their close friends. And they had many, many close friends! Ron is also survived by his nieces, Lori Sykes (Gerald) and Amy Hammer-Scronce (Tracy) and his grandnephews Jordan and Austin Sykes and Tyler Scronce. And don’t forget Tucker, Ron and Michel’s inseparable Shih-Tzu.

A celebration of Ron’s life has not yet been scheduled.
