Ruth S. Austin

Ruth was born on January 6, 1924 in Alexander Co. to the late Willard and Maude Downs Starnes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Rumlies Austin, a daughter, Rebecca Austin, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

She was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church and retired from the furniture industry. Her hobby was making pot holders.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Shook and husband, Randy of Taylorsville, granddaughter, Becky Ward and husband, Kelly of Hiddenite, grandson, Andrew Shook and wife Amy of Taylorsville, great grandchildren, Lexie, Brayden and Logan, sister, Zelma Austin of Taylorsville and a brother, Fred Starnes of Hickory.

Services will be Friday, April 22, at 2:00 P. M. at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church with the Reverend Stephen Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 12:45 – 1:45 P. M. at the church.

Hickory Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
