Steve Harry Newton, 74, of Hickory, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021 at his residence. Born January 2, 1947 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Paul Hubert Newton and Dorothy Troath Newton. Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a long distance truck driver in the furniture industry.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Doris “Dottie” Wheeler Newton; son, Jayden Blake Newton; daughters, Lisa Newton and Stephanie Caetta and husband Adam; brother, David Newton; sister, Dianne Devinney; grandchildren, Zachary Caetta, Krystal Stout, Leah Smith and husband Dustin and 5 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2021 at East Hickory Baptist Church with Joel Wise and Pastor Mark Schmitz officiating.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the church, prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to East Hickory Baptist Church Youth Ministry, 130 16th Street SE, Hickory, NC 28602.

we ran the roads together for years he and i were 27 years old when went work hickory chair co now the days have gone by and the trucks are gone and so will we be gone for he and and are friends that drove there have done he was great friend and will be missed by all of that of us thats left

Sorry to hear of his passing. I remember when I was a little kid and my dad and Long Legs worked at Hickory Chair in the early 80s.
He’ll always be remembered.

Dearest Dottie, Steve was a treasured member of our Family. My Father just loved him to bits. I am grateful for all the advice and work he has done at the beach house. We love you and will miss you Buddy. Love Cathy, Brendan and Family and the Late Pete. xo
