Thelma Elizabeth Pope Stoker Rowe, 95 of Hickory, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Trinity Village.
Born February 18, 1923, in Catawba County. She was the tenth of eleven children of the late Marcus Pope and Ursley Mae Fox.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband William Easter Stoker and second husband Ned Burnette Rowe; her maternal grandparents Joseph Fox and wife Martha Jane Deal; paternal grandparents Jefferson Pope and wife Belsie Pope; her siblings that preceded her in death were Ollie Herron, Bascom LeRoy Pope, George Pope, Homer Pope, Howard Pope, Ruth Hollar, Joe Pope, Bedie Turner, Sam Pope and Paul Pope and a great grandson Richard Landers.
Thelma is survived by two daughters Judy Stoker Brittain and husband Harold Brittain with children Clara Elizabeth Brittain Abee and husband Glen Abee, and great-grandchildren Drew and Krista Elizabeth Abee; Lesley Brittain Stallings and husband Rodney Stallings, great-grandchildren Michaela and Michenzy Stallings. Thelma’s second daughter Carolyn Jeanette Stoker Whisnant and husband Scott Whisnant with their children Angie Whisnant Landers and husband Rick Landers, great-grandchildren Zeke, Elijah, Esther and Anna Landers; Wendy Whisnant Dorsey and husband Michael Dorsey, great-grandchildren Morgan and Megan Dorsey; Brandy Whisnant White and husband Philip White, great grandchildren Rachel and Hayden White.
Thelma had one great-great grandchild, Preston Mellon, son of Drew Abee and Whitley Mellon (5th generation).
Thelma was a retired furniture worker and loved cooking for her family and friends. She was a member of Mulls Chapel Baptist Church of Connellys Springs. She will be missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends at Catawba Memorial Park Chapel on Sunday, March 18th from 2 – 3 PM at Catawba Funeral Home and the funeral will be conducted by Dr. Ed Yount following the visitation at 3 PM. The burial will be at Catawba Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will include Philip White, Rodney Stallings, Rick Landers, Glen Abee, Cody Winn and Michael Dorsey.
