Virginia Ervin Bost passed away peacefully on May 4, 2025, at the age of 95. She was a long-time resident of Hickory, NC and the wife of the late Earl Eugene Bost. She was born in Cedartown, GA on March 25, 1930, to Archie and Mae Ervin.
Virginia is survived by children Debra Winkler, Becky Bost, Teresa Walton (Matt), and Graham Bost; grandchildren Jason Morrison (Heather), Derek Hefner (Brittany), John Dougher II (Melissa), Blair Holland (Rion), Kate Walton, and Alice Cunningham (Jason); great grandchildren Evelyn Morrison, Cooper Morrison, Avery Hefner, Riley Hefner, Emily Dougher, John Dougher III, Virginia Holland, Saylor Holland, MaryKate Ross, Tyler Ross, Sadie Cunningham, Brown Cunningham, and Hardee Cunningham; brother Jim Munday (Pat). She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Eugene Bost, and her brother, Archie Ervin (Candy).
Virginia married the love of her life at 18, and as she often said, the life that followed “all started with a kiss.” Together, she and her beloved husband built a beautiful life and family in Hickory, becoming the reliable and trusted faces behind Bost Carpet. They were a dynamic team and a fixture in their community.
A devoted member of both St. Andrews Lutheran Church and the Episcopal Church of the Ascension, Virginia lovingly served for many years on the altar guild. She found joy and deep connection in her 50-year supper club, and she brought energy and laughter to every bridge game, round of golf, book, and dance floor—especially when jitterbugging with her Gene.
Virginia was known for her sharp sense of humor and her unique ability to make others laugh. She lovingly sewed clothes for her children during their early years and later stitched love into personalized quilts for each of her great-grandchildren. Fondly known as “The Queen” of the family, she was a natural leader, a devoted caregiver, a trusted friend, and a guiding mentor.
Topsail Beach held a special place in her heart, as did the many friends and memories made there. A cherished wife and proud mother of four, she also embraced many others as her own with her open heart and welcoming home. She treasured being called “Nana” and all the love and hugs that came with it.
Virginia now rests in the arms of Jesus, joyfully dancing the jitterbug with Gene on the streets of gold.
A celebration of life will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Ascension on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 11:00AM with The Reverand Karla Woggan officiating. A private family burial will be held on a future date. The family will have a reception at the church following the service. For those who wish to remember Virginia with a memorial gift, donations may be sent to the ALS Association at [email protected]. Arrangements are being handled by Hickory Funeral Home in Hickory.
