Wade was born on May 24, 1941, in Burke County to the late Alvin Matthews and Edna Huffman Matthews. Wade was retired from Griffin’s Security. Wade enjoyed attending gospel music concerts and traveling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Wayne Matthews, brothers Julius “Max” Matthews and William Mathews.
Surviving sisters, Lillie Brittain of Connelly Springs, Linda McCoy of Las Cruces NM, and Joyce Abernethy of Hildebran. One surviving brother John Henry Matthews of Land-O-Lakes, FL and a number of nieces and nephews survive him.
A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Hickory, on September 15 at 10:00 am.
