Wilburn "Mac" Edward McKinney

HICKORY---Wilburn (Mac) Edward McKinney, 89, of Hickory, passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2016. Born August 24, 1927, Mac was the son of the late Clifton and Viola McKinney of Englehard, NC. After serving his country in the army from 1945 to 1947, Mac worked at Western Electric in Burlington, NC where he met his late wife, Boots. They moved to Hickory in 1961 with their two daughters and bought and built Lakeside Marina in Bethlehem into the successful business it is today. Mac was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Boots McKinney, as well as two sisters and three brothers. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Karen Emerson and husband Tony of East Bend, NC, and Kathy Rea of Hickory; grandchildren Olivia Barlowe and husband Brandon of Hickory, Whitney Rea and fiancé Kevin Smith of Asheville, and Julia and Connor Emerson of East Bend. The family will receive friends prior to the service, Sunday, November 13, 2016 from 1:00pm to 1:45pm at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Hickory. Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, November 13, 2016 at 2:00pm at Northminster Presbyterian Church with Reverend Merriam Alexander officiating. The graveside service will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church, 3730 N. Center St. Hickory, NC 28601.
