

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William Buckminster Sr. of Hickory, North Carolina, who left us peacefully on March 13th at the age of 78. Born on January 12, 1947, in Vineland, New Jersey, William, better known as Bill, was the beloved son of Gwendolyn and Edwin Buckminster. He pursued his passion for engineering and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University, a foundation that shaped his lifelong career and love for problem-solving.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Buckminster, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He was a proud father to his daughter Kathleen Kelly and her husband, Michael Kelly, and his son Bill Buckminster Jr. and his wife, April Buckminster. Bill found great joy in his role as a grandfather, cherishing every moment spent with his grandchildren: Braden Kelly, Gavin Kelly, Cole Buckminster, and Chase Buckminster. His legacy of kindness, integrity, and love will live on through them.
He is also survived by his brother, Lew Buckminster and his wife Catherine.
Bill was known for his dedication to his family, his strong work ethic, and his unwavering commitment to his community and church. He touched many lives with his generosity and unique spirit.
A mass to celebrate Bill's life will be held on Monday March 24th at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Hickory. Father Lawrence LoMonaco will officiate. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
Bill will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
