

William Franklin Weisner, a resident of Trinity Village Lutheran Home on Springs Road in Hickory, NC died on February 24, 2014. The son of a dairy farmer and high school math teacher, Raymond Jennings Weisner and Foda White Weisner, Franklin was born May 13, 1927 in Olin (north Iredell county), NC, the second of four brothers, and attended Union Grove School. After employment adventures in New Jersey and Oregon, he entered the US Army in 1944, serving during WW II in Belgium, France, and Germany in the medic corps. After the military, Mr. Weisner enrolled at the prestigious Nashville Automotive and Diesel College in Nashville, TN, graduating in 1950. He worked for over 56 years in the automotive industry, 51 of them at United Automotive Service in Winston-Salem, NC. Mr. Weisner married Mildred Mahaffey of Olin, NC, in 1952, who preceded him in death in 1987. They had one son, the Rev. Andrew F. Weisner, Ph.D., now the campus pastor at Lenoir-Rhyne University, Hickory, NC. Surviving Mr. Weisner are his brother, Noel Weisner of Olin, NC; his son, Pastor Weisner; daughter-in-law Claudia Earle; and grandchildren Amanda Lemons, Amber Wilkins, Autumn Earle, Alexus Barker, and Antonio Arriaga.
His family expresses abundant thanks to the administration and staff at Trinity Village Lutheran Home, Hickory, for their outstanding ministry during the years of Pop’s residing there. Memorials may be made to “Trinity Village (Lutheran Home),” 1265 21st Street NE, Hickory, NC, 28601; or any charity of one’s choice. Thanks also to Hickory Funeral Home for assistance in fulfilling Pop’s wishes of donation to Wake Forest University Medical School. After a 2:00 p.m. memorial service for family and Lutheran Home staff, family will receive friends and guests on Sunday, March 2, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m., at the chapel of Trinity Village (Lutheran Home) on Springs Road (1265 21st Street NE,) Hickory.
