Alejandro G. Logan passed away on October 18, 2021, at the age of 74 surrounded by his wife, children, and family pet in the home that he built. He was born on July 29, 1947, in Santiago de Chile. He enjoyed playing soccer, being with his siblings and family, but always wanted to live in the United States. At the age of 21, he left Santiago to chase the American Dream.
Starting out in a toy factory, Alejandro held many jobs before becoming a professional diamond setter. With his incredible work ethic, precision, craftmanship, and high-standards, Alejandro started working for world-renowned jewelry company Tiffany & Co. in their Pelham factory. Due to his impeccable work and consistent attendance, Alejandro became foreman of the diamond setting department at the Tiffany & Co. flagship store in New York City. Throughout his career, he has set diamonds for Tiffany & Co.’s most iconic pieces that were showcased in magazines and the famous Tiffany & Co. blue-book catalog. Alejandro worked for other major jewelry companies such as Gemveto, Martin Flyer, and Harry Winston until retirement.
Alejandro would frequently return to Chile to visit his mother and siblings. One year, he met the love-of-his-life, Sandra. Falling madly in love but living in New York, Alejandro proposed to Sandra over the phone after a year of dating. They were married on March 11, 1989 in Santiago, Chile. The couple welcomed their first child and only daughter, Teresita in September of 1989.
He successfully relocated his wife and newborn daughter to a humble one-bedroom apartment in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. The couple welcomed their second child, Jay in October of 1991. He was typically seen in the park with his children on the swings or taking trips to the New York Aquarium with his family and brother, Juan Carlos. Alejandro saw the need to move to a bigger space and relocated his family once more to Plainview, Long Island in April 1992. In September 1994, the couple welcomed their third child, Mario.
Settling into the suburbs of Long Island, Alejandro enjoyed BBQs in the summertime, trick-or-treating with his children at Halloween, pumpkin picking in October, shoveling snow during the winter months, and taking his children to Toys R Us every Friday. After church on Sundays, he would take his family to the Plaza Diner for breakfast. He enjoyed giving his wife and children everything and anything possible to see them happy. If his family was happy, he was happy.
A man of simple means, Alejandro was resistant to technology until his children gifted him an iPad one Christmas. He adored his iPad and was seen constantly with it, even in the bathroom. In his last years of life, he enjoyed returning to Chile with his family, watching Ancient Aliens, cheering for the Chilean national soccer team, researching conspiracy theories, and listening to his favorite tango music on his iPad. He routinely yelled at the New York Football Giants for throwing an interception in the end-zone and when Arsenal FC scored goals.
Alejandro is survived by his beautiful wife Sandra, eldest daughter Teresita, and sons - Jay and Mario. He is predeceased by his parents – Olga and Mario, and his youngest sister Angelica. Alejandro is also survived by his siblings – Mario, Juan Carlos, and Margarita.
Forever devoted to his family, Alejandro was a devoted husband, father, brother, son, friend, and human being. His family will forever remember him as a man with purpose, morals, values, and discipline. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
