Debra was the beloved wife of Michael, with whom she shared 20 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and partnership. She was a devoted and proud mother to Shana Kersten (Timothy), Marisa Scola (Christopher Shakalis), Michael Fortunato, Jacqueline Fortunato, and Mark Fortunato. Her greatest joy came from her role as grandmother to Dean, Lilyonna, Kaylan, Kyle, Mason, Kaiden, and Jackson, each of whom she cherished deeply.
She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters, Gayle Genn (Joshua) and Sandy Mangini (Greg), along with many extended family members and dear friends.
Debra had a vibrant spirit and a love for life that was unmistakable. She enjoyed shopping, baking, and getting dressed up for any occasion. She loved to dance, attend parties, and was known for being the light in any room, always making a memorable entrance wherever she went. One of her favorite traditions was hosting her annual Fourth of July barbecue, where she brought family and friends together in celebration and joy.
She found peace and happiness at the beach and had a special place in her heart for her dogs, especially her beloved Missy, who crossed over before her and now awaits her once again. Above all else, Debra’s greatest love was her family, who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 7:00–9:00 p.m. at the Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes. The family will gather at the funeral home on Saturday at 12:00 p.m., with a funeral procession departing at 1:15 p.m. Rabbi Kehati will officiate a graveside service at Pinelawn Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m., where Debra will be laid to rest.
Debra’s light, love, and unforgettable spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
