I was so saddened to hear of Marie’s passing.
I was fortunate to know her as my dear friend Susan’s “Mom”.  She and her husband Nick always exemplified  to me a close, loving couple who valued “family” foremost—not just their own children but the siblings, in-laws, cousins and  all their accompanying friends!
Marie was such a delight to be around…always the lady, sharp, warm and so easy to talk to. 
I will miss her.
My deepest sympathy to her entire family.

Near the end of a block party at the Iervolino’s, it was just a few of us left trying to kill the keg.  Mrs Iervolino knew we wouldn’t stop until it was gone.  She decided we already had too much and even though she wasn’t a beer drinker, she drank so we would have less!

Grandma: I've tried to make your famous gravy more times than I can count (thankful that James wrote down whatever parts of the recipe you could share despite you never measuring anything) and it never comes quite as good as it did with you and Grandpa sitting around the table. I'll miss our meals together almost as much as I will miss our card games after dinner and the loving words of encouragement as we got back into the car for the drive back to Connecticut. My memory of you will live on in every card game (I hold them up now so everyone can't see them) and every meal I cook for family and friends with as much love as you cooked for us. 
We couldn't have been more lucky to have you as our grandma.

Marie may have left us this week but memories of her will live on forever. A wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to so many. 

Over the years hundreds of trips from NY to CT – always led to big hugs and kisses for her precious grandchildren Stephen, Joseph and James upon her arrival. They enjoyed her smiling face, sand box castle creations, and trips to the local park, and well as their introduction to cards games.

She watched more of their soccer, baseball, and football games than I can count.  Words of encouragement – win or lose - made them feel special and valuable. Many trips over the years to museums, aquariums, and historical sites expanded their social skills and knowledge. Words of wisdom continued as they got older which undoubtedly shaped their development into boyhood and blazed their trail to manhood.

 The food, feast, and conversation always passed the time quickly – until it came time for adult card playing. Mom’s demeanor changed quite a bit when she played cards with me.  While I am far from an expert card player her [humorous] criticisms (encouraged by Maria)  led me to keep a log over time. Here are a couple of her classics: 

Who taught you how to play cards?  You are terrible at this. Fan your cards for goodness sake. Hold them up – everyone can see them! 
What’s the matter with you?  Why would you throw that card away? You’re feeding your opponent.  Are you paying attention?  That move just cost me 5 cents!!!  How many times do I need to teach you how to play this game?  All of these comments made our games absolutely hilarious and fun.

The playful banter always ended with an after dinner drink, coffee, biscotti, pignoli and tri color cookies followed by long hugs goodbye.  

I was lucky to share one last hug with her at Brighton Gardens after a laughter filled visit which I will remember forever. She was a special women who unconditionally loved family and friends alike and her legacy will live on forever.



She was a very loving aunt! I’ll always remember her. RIP Aunt Mary!

Grandma made the absolute best sauce and meatballs on the planet. She also taught me how to shuffle cards and how to fan them out in my hands. But more than that, Grandma taught me how to be kind and loving to those around me. So lucky to have her as a grandma. 

Grandma: we always looked forward to visiting you and grandpa - not just because you let us eat lots of dessert and served up the best pasta and meatballs on earth - but because you gave us lots of love, fun, laughs, and encouragement. Thanks for being the best grandma out there and helping us grow up happy. We miss you! Love - Steve 

I am thankful to have known you, Grandma Iervolino. I will always cherish the holidays our families all spent together & all the good food we shared.

My great great great great Aunt Mary

Even when your memory wasn’t the best you always remembered your crazy nephew Carmen.    The poker table in heaven is now complete.   Always a smile and happy thoughts

I loved and admired Great Aunt Mary for her constant smile and bright spirit.  

Picnics at Eisenhower or Belmont Lake State Park  with the Family!

Mom always dressed well and kept herself looking pretty.  Her friends would say she was even even more beautiful on the inside💕

Marie was a wonderful woman and friend. I hope she is playing Bingo with Claire and Shirley in heaven and enjoying some Italian food .
