Thomas Konstantinos Gioulos, a kind-hearted scholar, U.S. Army veteran, and devoted family man, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on April 4, 2025. He was 90 years old.
Born on May 27, 1934, in the village of Vounihora, Fokidos, Greece—a place he held close to his heart—Thomas never lost his deep connection to his roots. He often spoke of the rolling hills and familiar paths of his hometown, dreaming of one day bringing his wife, children, and beloved grandchildren there to walk the land that shaped him.
After immigrating to the United States, Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Army—a chapter of his life that not only reflected his dedication to his new country but also earned him his U.S. citizenship, a milestone he held with great pride.
Following his service, Thomas pursued higher education with passion and purpose, earning his degree from UCLA. A lifelong learner and published author, he carried his love for knowledge into every part of his life. Whether he was discussing politics, immersed in a good book, or tending to his garden, Thomas did everything with thoughtfulness and care.
A longtime resident of the South Shore of Long Island, Thomas was the epitome of grace, intelligence, and warmth. He was a man of deep convictions, gentle humor, and quiet strength.
He found his greatest joy in his family. His wife, Jeanette, was his constant companion and true partner in life. Together they built a home filled with laughter, traditions, and unconditional love. He was a proud father to Michael Tamborello and Janine Mazur, and a caring father-in-law to Joseph Mazur Jr. But his role as “Papou” was where his heart truly shined was cherishing every moment spent with his grandchildren: Joseph Mazur III, Sam Tamborello, Gianna Mazur, Gabriella Mazur, Savannah Tamborello, Anthony Mazur, and Steven Tamborello.
Thomas also had a soft spot for animals, especially the family’s many dogs over the years. Of them all, he held a special affection for his loyal Yorkie, Sweet Pea, and his gentle Shih Tzu, Jasmine, who were his constant companions and brought him comfort and joy.
He leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, wisdom, and family. His stories, his laughter, and his unwavering devotion will live on in those who were lucky enough to know him.
Visitation will be held on April 17, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8 pm at Vernon C. Wagner Funeral Homes, 125 W Old Country Road, Hicksville, NY.Interment will follow on April 18, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Calverton National Cemetery, Wading River, NY.
