Betty was born on September 8, 1931, in Ashe county NC. She was the daughter of Earl Hamilton Martin and Pauline Johnson Martin. Betty attended the Riverview schools in Ashe County. As a five year old, Betty contracted polio. After spending six months in an iron lung at John Hopkins Hospital, Betty survived polio with no lasting disabilities. While Betty was in the iron lung, Betty dearly wanted a new baby doll. Two businessmen from High Point became aware of Betty’s desire for a new doll. The very kind Mr. A. P. Cliatt and Mr. Percy Payne sent a life-sized doll in a carriage to Betty’s home in Ashe county. She spent many hours playing with the doll as she made a complete recovery from paralysis.
She attended Lees McRae College where she met her future husband, William Roy Frazier, Jr. of Randolph County. Betty and Roy were married on June 9, 1951. After spending a few years in the army at Ft. Jackson, SC, Betty and Roy moved to High Point. She worked for a short time at High Point College. For 38 years, Betty worked at Drexel Heritage in the personnel department. She volunteered with the Drexel Heritage Retirement association until her health declined.
Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church where she volunteered with the Parsons Table work crew.
Betty is predeceased by her husband, Roy, her parents, her brother James Edward Martin. She is survived by four daughters, Deborah Frazier Novak, Diane Frazier Schrader, Janet Leigh Frazier and Timothy J. Kennedy, Marsha Denise Moulton and Malcolm Wayne Moulton. Betty’s pride and joy were her ten grandchildren. Lauran Nicole Schrader, Blair Martin Wood Kennedy and Joel Douglas Kennedy, Haley Moulton Sanderson and Blake Aaron Sanderson, Zachary Roy Frazier Schrader, David Frazier Novak, Richard Alexander Schrader, Mary Elizabeth Novak, Taylor Leigh Moulton, Callie Anderson Wood, and James Cody Schrader.
