She was blessed with 88 years to share life with her family and friends who will greatly miss her. Doris spent her last days at The Hospice Home at High Point who provided comforting care and spiritual support to her and the family.
Born January 3, 1927 in Guilford County, she was the daughter of Coy and Daisy Elliott. Doris was a life-long resident of High Point. After graduating from High Point High School, she attended Business College. She was then employed by Tomlinson and The Fly Back Company where she met her soul mate and spouse, Carl Macy Borum, Jr. They were married July 16, 1949, and shared 60 wonderful years of marriage. After marriage they moved to Venezuela, South America, for a short time with Macy’s employment. Returning to High Point, she spent the rest of her life being a loving wife, mother, grandmother (MeMa) and caring friend. The last few years she enjoyed the companionship of her great-granddog Lucy.
Doris was a Christian lady who cherished her membership at Deep River Friends Meeting. She greeted each day with a cheerful heart, joyful smile and a gentle, kind, sweet spirit.
In addition to her parents and husband, the passing of her son, Kurt Douglas Borum, in 2011, brought her much sadness and sorrow. Her sister and brother-in-law, Lauretta Polly and Ray Baity, also preceded her in death, as well as in-laws, Carl Macy and Etta Borum, brother-in-law, John Borum and sister-in-law, Helen Borum.
Those who will forever cherish her memory include her son, Kent Macy Borum of Asheville; daughter-in-law, Mary Gaye Borum of High Point; grandchildren, Andy Douglas Borum and Kathryn (Katy) Marie Borum, both students at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana; niece, Gail Simpson and husband Jimmy of High Point; great nieces, Melissa and husband Jason of Washington, DC; Vickie Woods and husband Joey and daughter, Kyleigh; Jamie Jones and husband David, all of Thomasville; brother-in-law, Rodney Borum and children Richard (son Carl) and Sarah married to Walter Honaman (children Chandler and Stephanie) all of Florida. Other special relatives include Billie Wells of Kinston; Jewel Penny and husband Elder of Atlanta, GA and their son Jim Penny and wife Janie of Archdale, along with many other cousins and special friends.
Doris has lived well and loved long. She was a gift and blessing to all who knew her. Her family and friends will feel a void in their lives and hearts.
We will remember and celebrate her life with a visitation on Saturday, March, 21, from 6-8pm at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point. On Sunday, March 22, at 2:00 p.m,, a funeral service will be held at Deep River Friends Meeting in High Point. Pastor Scott Wagoner and Rev. John Sides will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family wishes to express their thankfulness for the caring medical professionals of High Point Regional Hospital and the Hospice Home at High Point. We are also grateful for our many friends and family who uplifted us with prayers, visits, cards, calls, and acts of love and kindness.
