Doris Newman Freeman

Mrs. Freeman was a lifelong High Pointer, residing at her Rockspring Road home from the date of her marriage until the day of her death.

She met her husband, the late Mr. Ernest B. Freeman, Jr. at a football game at High Point College (now HPU). The couple married and raised two children. Following the death of her husband in 1973, Mrs. Freeman served in both the Lady Lions Club of High Point, and in the Duke Employees Association.

She was the Duke Energy Volunteer of the year in 1998, recognized for her long service to patients at High Point Regional Medical Center. She was active in the High Point Chapter of the Lady Lions Club, served as their President in 1973, and was chosen as Lady Lion of the Year in 1976. She was Secretary to the United Methodist Charge Conference and to the Jamestown United Methodist Church’s Administrative Board for many years, and attended Jamestown United Methodist Church her entire life.

She was employed by the City of High Point in the Electrical Department for twenty-five years until her retirement in 1997.

She is survived by two sons, Mr. Ernest B. Freeman , III of High Point; and Dr. Ray M. Freeman of Atlanta, and by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Marguerite Mize of High Point.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 2:00pm at Jamestown United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Tom Latimer. Visitation will follow in the church’s parlor.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Jamestown United Methodist Church at 403 E, Main Street, Jamestown, NC 27282, where Mrs. Freeman was the most senior member on the church’s rolls.
