

Mr. Frank Parker Kersey, 86, of High Point died on July 15, 2013 at High Point Regional Hospital. Mr. Kersey was born on January 13, 1927, in Guilford County, the son of Charles Arthur Kersey and Lula Jordan Kersey. He graduated from Jamestown High School and Bryce Commercial College. Frank began working at Wilson and Company as Cashier and then went to the War Department in Washington, DC, and trained in the Pentagon. He worked in the Munitions Building for three months and then transferred to the Social Security Administration in Fayetteville, NC. He worked there two different times for three and one half years. He also worked for the Social Security Administration in High Point for four years. On September 3, 1950 he was called to serve in the Korean War as a Sergeant 1st Class. He served at Fort Bragg in personnel for the 540th FA Bn. In HQ, Co and nine months in Japan in Personnel Processing as a Personnel Management Specialist in the 3068th Army Unit in Sasebo. Upon leaving Sasebo, Japan, he received a Letter of Commendation from the Commanding Officer or HQ. Co of the 3068th Army Unit. Upon returning from the military, Mr. Kersey was transferred from the Social Security Office in High Point to the office in Greensboro. He became a Field Representative while in Fayetteville. Frank worked in Greensboro for over thirty years for a total of forty three years with the Social Security Administration when he retired on November 30, 1988. Frank attended Mitchells Grove United Methodist Church since birth and became a member there when he was twelve years old. He began going to Sunday School at an early age. Frank was elected treasurer of Mrs. Rosa Cashatts Sunday School class and also Mrs. Orphey Cox Edwards class. He participated in the pageants under the direction of Mrs. Callie Billings during his preteen years by citing recitations. At age 16, he was voted vice-president of the Christian Endeavor Society. During his senior year of high school, Doris Misenheimer and he played the leading roles in the Christmas pageant under the direction of Callie Billings. He also had roles in the childrens day and Easter pageant, also under the direction of Mrs. Callie Billings. He was a member of the YMCA for 67 years. This includes the years in High Point, Fayetteville, and most recently Greensboro, NC.
Mr. Kersey is survived by one brother, Alvin E. Kersey of Greensboro, NC, 15 nieces, 1 nephew, and a host of great nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, 2:00pm at Mitchells Grove UMC, with Dr. Rev. Tim Porter officiating, burial following at the church cemetery, with full military honors. Visitation will be 6-7:30 pm on Tuesday at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point.
