Born on September 30, 1955 in Greensboro, North Carolina, Glenda spent her life devoted to family and her faith. Glenda graduated from Smith High School in 1973 and soon after started her banking career with Old Stone Bank in High Point. As her banking career continued, the friends she made at Old Stone, BB&T, Truist, Scott & Stringfellow and Oppenheimer & Co. became a second family to her. Glenda was preceded in death by her husband, A. B. Cook, her parents, Millie and John Fletcher and her brother, Ricky Fletcher.
When she wasn’t working, Glenda was a “beach bum” at heart and would often visit the Carolina beaches with her husband A.B. and her son Jason. She loved to walk along the sandy shores soaking in the sunshine. Glenda enjoyed going to the beach and on cruises almost as much as she enjoyed attending the Carolina Panther’s games in Charlotte, where her and her husband had reserved seats for years. Another of Glenda’s favorite things to do was spending time with family members making crafts and Christmas ornaments. She could spend hours with her sister, nieces, cousins, and friends creating beautiful projects and making precious memories.
Westchester Baptist Church became a second home for Glenda, and members of the congregation her extended family. She spent many years dutifully working in the church office, singing proudly in the choir, looking after the children in the nursery, and helping everyone and every committee in any way that she could.
Glenda was a ‘giver’ in every sense of the word. Giving of her time and talents, and sharing her love and faith with all who knew her.
Glenda is survived by her son, Jason (Whitney) Cook, sister Caroline (John) Mays, and brother Jerry Fletcher, along with many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and family members.
A Celebration of Glenda’s life will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Westchester Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Eric Peacock. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
