Born February 14, 1922 in Knoxville, TN, he moved to High Point as a young boy and lived here for the remainder of his life. He met Dell Myers when he was home on leave during the second World War and fell in love with her the moment he saw her. They were married for almost 64 years and she remained his sweetheart always. They built a life together and raised their two daughters, Susan Boling of the home and Dianne Shanks of High Point. He was also blessed with a granddaughter who he loved dearly, Machelle Runyon of Lexington, NC and her wonderful husband, Jeff , who was welcomed into the family and built a bond with Jimmy. His great granddaughter, Amber Runyon, was a precious gift to him from the day she was born.
He was proud of his service as a sergeant serving in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II, as one of the first members of the 104th Infantry Division, Timberwolf Battalion. He, along with many others, marched throughout Europe, fighting hard for their country. He returned to High Point after the war, married the love of his life and worked most of his life in the furniture industry of High Point.
The family would like to thank all of those who cared for James during the last few months.
There will be a celebration of the life he lived at Sechrest Funeral Home on Lexington Avenue, High Point, Thursday, August 16. Visitation with the family will be held at 1:00 with the funeral service at 2:00 in the Sechrest Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, please honor Mr. Fritts with gifts to the Salvation Army or the Baptist Children’s Home. Organizations that touched his heart.
