Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Joan Peters Hawley Kling, 89, passed peacefully in her sleep on January 5, 2023 in the loving care of her daughter, granddaughters and staff of Hospice of Davidson County.
Joan was born in Nelingh, Nebraska, April 1, 1933, a daughter of the late Albert Henry Peters and Lora Lee Kennedy Peters. She lived in Omaha, NE for many years where she was employed by Ramada Inn. Joan moved to North Carolina twenty one years ago where she really began living. She volunteered with the Senior Center for many years, was volunteer of the year in 2011, and participated in the Senior Games, winning numerous medals. Joan was an active member of Hillside Park Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.
Joan was predeceased by her husbands, Floyd Hawley, who died in1961, and then to Leeland “Lee” Kling, who died in 1997; two sons, Dean Hawley and Robert Kling, three sisters and four brothers.
Joan leaves behind her daughter, Diana Hultquist; three sons Dale Hawley (Linda), Daryl Hawley, Ricky Kling (Steven), grandchildren Danielle Pendegraph (Stephen), Harmony Stone (Kyle), Nicole Gahner (Erik), John Hawley (Terri), Jeffrey Hawley, Dennis Bauman, Robert Donavon, and multiple great grandchildren; sisters, Doris Haase, Shirley Brant, brothers Bob Peters and Richie Peters; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Joan's life will be held Monday, January 9, 2023 at 3 p.m. in the at Sechrest-Davis Funeral Home Chapel, High Point by Dr. Steven Chipps. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 2 until 3 p.m. Her final resting place will be beside of her husband Lee in Omaha, NE.
