Born in Jamestown on May 19, 1933, she was the daughter of Lucy Hodgin Modlin and Henry R. Modlin, Sr. Her late siblings were Louise Bryan, Henry “Rommie” Modlin, Jr., Philip Modlin, Muriel June Modlin, and Suzanne Lamm.
Kay is survived by her husband of 65 years, Harold Hill of High Point; daughter, Lydia Hill of Chapel Hill; son, Loren Hill and his wife Joyce Hill of High Point; sister, Miriam Taylor of Roswell, Georgia; and many nieces and nephews.
Her humor, love of crossword puzzles and Jumbles, and pride in her family and community remained strong even as Alzheimer’s disease diminished her memory. She was a 1951 graduate of Jamestown High School and always enjoyed attending get-togethers with former classmates.
Kay retired from Guilford Technical Community College, where she had worked at the switchboard/reception desk and in the bookstore. She had also worked at Millis Road Elementary School in Jamestown, where she had served as school secretary and teacher’s aide.
Visitation will be 4:30-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, at Sechrest Funeral Service, 1301 East Lexington Avenue, High Point. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 8, also at Sechrest Funeral Service.
