

Larry was born in Kannapolis, March 22, 1950, a son of Luther and Betty Outlaw Grooms. He was a Marine veteran, serving in Vietnam, where he was sprayed with agent orange. Larry retired from Leggett and Platt. Larry loved his family and going to the coast. He enjoyed wrestling, short track racing, especially Bowman Gray, fishing and working in his yard. Larry was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Lee and Harold Grooms.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Debbie Lyda Grooms; five daughters, Laura Grooms and husband David Zimmerman, Carrie Grooms Hicks and husband Larry, Tiffany Gibson and fiancé Donald Hood, Anjuli Grooms and Deanna Grooms; four sons, Shannon Grooms and wife Crystal, Marc Grooms and wife Tori, Carlos Grooms and wife Emily and Ricky Grooms; his mother, Betty Outlaw; a sister, Peggy Jean Grooms; a brother, Robert Grooms and wife Cathy; 17 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; mother in law, Nancy Lyda and a special four legged friend, Pandora.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 am at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery by Rev. Jerry Bare with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 until 6 p.m. at Davis Funerals and Cremations, 976 Phillips Ave., High Point. Memorials may be directed to Brenner Children’s Hospital.
