Mrs. Margaret Lee Schafer, age 92, died February 6, 2013. Margaret was born October 17, 1920 in Thomasville, NC. The eldest of four children born to George Hill Lee and Bessie Bevan Lee, Margaret was preceded in death by her two younger brothers Bill and Fred Lee, both of Thomasville, NC. She was the widow of the late Dr. Earl William Schafer, Jr. Margaret and Earl met while Earl was a resident doctor and Margaret a nurse at Bowman Gray Hospital in Winston Salem, NC. They made High Point, NC their home where Dr. Schafer became the first orthopedic surgeon in the area. Margaret stayed busy raising their four sons while giving unselfishly of herself to her church and community. Her intense passion for growing and arranging flowers was only superseded by her love for family and friends. Many will remember Margaret as always having a smile and something nice to say to anyone within the sound of her voice.
Margaret is survived by her sister Janie Lee Manuel of Thomasville, NC; her four sons, Earl William Schafer, III (Bill) of Charlotte, NC; David Lee Schafer and wife, Alice of Raleigh, NC; Stuart McCoy Schafer and wife, Kathleen of Mooresville, NC; and, Robert Bevan Schafer and wife, Andrea of Denton, NC.
