

She was born on September 4, 1936 to the late Vernard and Mary Alice Young in Madisonville, KY.
Mary graduated from Madisonville High School in 1954 and attended Murray State College.
Mary married the late Lt.Col. Glen Golden, USMC (Ret.) in 1956. Together, as a family, they lived and traveled the world together. Mary was a devoted mother, teacher, and proud military officer’s wife
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son David, her daughter in law Sue, and her nephew Barry.
Mary is survived by her daughters Leah Moir (David), Julie Alfred (Fred), her grandchildren Brandon Golden (Emily), Brian Moir, Kylie Bodsford (Matt) and Lora Alfred, her great grandchildren, Ellie Moir, Hudson Golden, Carson Golden and Brooklyn Bodsford. Mary is also survived by her brother Dr. David Young, sister Sara Pearson, and one nephew and two nieces.
Mary was a long-time educator and once the family settled in High Point, NC, she became an accountant until she retired. Mary was a talented seamstress and artist, an avid reader and enjoyed home décor. While she hated being the center of attention, she loved being a part of the party. Even though she was quiet and unassuming, she took on the extraordinary challenge of being a military wife and mother during wartime with tremendous grace and courage. She created a warm and loving home wherever duty called. Mary’s life, in its entirety, was a testament to the power of love and resilience.
Mary was a loving mother, instilling in her children resilience, integrity and compassion. She loved being a grandmother and great grandmother, finding joy in watching her family grow.
The love she shared with her family and friends will forever be cherished. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Mary will be interned with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
