Born in Wilmington, North Carolina, Max grew up there with a spirit that could not be contained -infectious, joyful, and overflowing with a love so genuine and so pure that it touched every person who had the privilege of knowing him. His energy lit up every room he entered, and his laugh — deep, full, and sometimes unstoppable — was the kind that would bring tears to his own eyes from whatever was cracking him up and joy to everyone around him. Max was incapable of hatred. It was simply not in him. What was in him was love, in its most uncomplicated, pure and beautiful form.
Max had an impressive Winnie the Pooh collection in his room. He loved the Disney Channel's Welcome to Pooh Corner, and in recent years expanded his world to include The Book of Pooh, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Peppa Pig, Paw Patrol, and Barney and Friends. He loved going "bye bye" — whether a short trip or a long ride, the journey itself brought him happiness. He loved "yum yum," the joy of going out to eat, sometimes charming the waitresses with one of his signature flirty smiles. He loved fishing with his family, celebrating birthdays, and — most recently — spending Christmas with the people he cherished most, watching his nephew and niece unwrap their gifts with the delight only a loving uncle could truly appreciate.
Max was the heart and inspiration behind Fishin' With Special Friends (FishinWithSpecialFriends.org), a nonprofit that brings together individuals with special needs and community volunteers for a day of friendship, fishing, and fun. He wasn't just its inspiration — he was a multiple champion.
Max is survived by his father, Max Weavil, Jr.; his mother, Nora Manrique Weavil; his sisters, Bambi Christina Weavil and Taryn Nichole Weavil McMillan, her husband Sean McMillan, nephew Oliver McMillan, and niece Jasmine McMillan; his aunt, Rosita Hayashi; his grandfather, Max Weavil, Sr.; and the beloved family pets who gave and received his love every day — Storm, Cage, Zen, Nikki, Kairi, Asuka, IO, Kross and Sasha.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lourdes Barrera Manrique; his grandfather, Daniel Manrique, Sr.; his uncles, Daniel Manrique, Jr., Vergilio Manrique, and Ben Manrique; and his great-grandparents, Herbert and Frances Nebel.
Max never needed words to tell you he loved you. His smile said it all. He leaves behind a family forever changed by the gift of who he was, and the ripple effect of friends that is better — warmer, kinder, more connected — because he was in it.
Max has joined God to be with family, friends, and to be truly free from all limitations, until we see him again.
