

Mrs. Hedrick was born Nell Elizabeth Holton, on November 6, 1919, in Newport News, Virginia, and lived most of her life in High Point. She was the daughter of Abner H. and Bertye McClure Holton. She was a graduate of High Point High School and High Point College. She was a retired school teacher who taught third, fourth, and fifth grades for the High Point City (Guilford County) Schools at Oak View and Kirkman Park Elementary Schools. Mrs. Hedrick was an active member of the North Carolina Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma Honorary Education Sorority. She was a member of High Point Historical Museum Guild, the Piedmont Environmental Center, and the Catesby Bird Club. Mrs. Hedrick was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church where she served as Deacon, adult Sunday school teacher, Women’s Missionary Union Director, a member of the choir, and on numerous church committees.
In 1940 she married J. Dolen Hedrick who preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter Kay H. Curlee and her husband Jim of Southern Pines, two sons John Dolen Hedrick, Jr. and wife Vicki of Tucker, Georgia and Robert Holton Hedrick and wife Diane of Greensboro, eight grandchildren, and eighteen great grandchildren.
Also surviving are her sister, Helen Rae Cox of River Landing, and one brother, A. Homer Holton of High Point.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in First Baptist Church with the Reverend Bruce Hartgrove officiating. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sechrest Funeral Service on E. Lexington Avenue on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm
