Robert Lester Burge passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2010, in High Point, North Carolina. He is survived by his parents Randy and Susan Burge of the home, his brother and sister-in-law and two nephews, Matt and Katy Burge, Harrison and Thomas Burge of Charlotte, NC; his grandmothers, Ada O. Burge of Colfax, NC, and Mary P. Haviland of Kernersville, NC; his uncle and aunt, Rick and Kitty Burge of Burlington, NC, and good friend Allison Faber of Atlanta, GA.
Rob Burge was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in 1973 to Susan and Randy Burge. He was a graduate of Salem High School in Salem, VA, and the Kenan Flagler School of Business of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree. After graduation he was employed by Aon Consulting in Winston-Salem, NC, and Lucent Technologies in Greensboro, NC. Rob later moved to Atlanta where he worked for ACS and EDS, later Hewlett-Packard, as a business systems analyst in the IT field.
Rob had a great love of life and was possessed of a highly developed sense of humor. Any of his friends can relate stories of his wit and keen intelligence, Simpsons episodes notwithstanding. Rob was an athlete who participated in and earned varsity letters in high school sports, and he played every intramural sport known to humankind at UNC-Chapel Hill. He loved golf but found that it often tested his patience, not to mention his sense of humor.
Rob was blessed with an amazing group of friends who were loyal and strong, always connected to Rob, not only during the good times but more importantly throughout the difficult times of his life. For all their loving support, the members of Rob’s family are eternally grateful.
Visitation will be held at Sechrest Funeral Home in High Point, NC from 7:00 until 9:00 PM on Wednesday, and a memorial service will be held at Main Street United Methodist Church in Kernersville, NC, on Thursday at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to the Brain Tumor Center of Excellence, Comprehensive Cancer Center of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Medical Center Boulevard, Winston-Salem, NC, or Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
The family extends a special thanks to Dr. Glenn Lesser and his team at the Brain Tumor Center of Excellence, Comprehensive Cancer Center of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and the staff of the Hematology/Oncology unit of the North Tower for their highly skilled and compassionate professionalism. They are the gold standard in cancer treatment and care. The family also thanks the supportive and responsive staff of Hospice of the Piedmont. What they do makes this world a better place.
