

Mr. Horton graduated from Fuquay-Varina High School, Campbell College and Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He received his funeral director and embalmer license in 1972 and became a resident of High Point that same year. Mr. Horton was employed with Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Horton appreciated classical and liturgical music in worship; and supported professional organists and musicians through membership in the Greater Greensboro Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
He was the son of the late Thomas and Lizzie Horton and was also preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Horton and his sister, Frances Horton Christmas.
Surviving is his niece, Ms. Harriett Christmas Elder of Raleigh; five nephews, James H. Christmas, Jr., Patrick Horton, Jerry and Brantley Blanchard all of Raleigh, Glenn Horton, Jr. of Garner and several great nieces and great nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church by Father Vincent Smith, O.S.F.S. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. A private inurnment will be held in the mausoleum of Historic Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
It was his request that memorial contributions be directed to the Building Fund, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 4145 Johnson Street, High Point, NC 27265.
